Visita Iglesia in Iloilo

One of the things to do when in Iloilo is to visit its historic, centuries-old churches. So here are some of the churches you might include in your itinerary when you visit Iloilo.

La Paz Church

La Paz Church
La Paz, Iloilo City
Patroness: Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage

Jaro Cathedral
Jaro, Iloilo City
Patroness: Our Lady of Candles commemorating the purification of Mother Mary during the Presentation of Jesus. It is also said that the image of Our Lady has been growing in size.

Molo Church
Molo, Iloilo City
Patroness: St. Anne, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is the patroness of women and the Molo Church is deemed a feminist church since its aisle is lined by statues of sixteen female saints.

Tigbauan Church
Tigbauan, Iloilo
Patron: St. John of Sahagun, an Augustinian priest born in Sahagun, Spain with a special gift to discern the conscience of the people.

I love the mosaics on the walls.

Guimbal Church
Guimbal, Iloilo
Patron: St. Nicholas of Tolentino, an Augustinian friar born in Pontano, Italy but moved to the town of Tolentino where he served as peacemaker between the two factions in Tolentino. Revered as patron of the holy souls and the souls in purgatory.

Miag-ao Church
Miag-ao, Iloilo
Patron: St. Thomas of Villanova, an Augustinian friar known as the Father of the Poor for his charitable works. For him, charity is not just giving but removing the need of those who receive charity and liberating them from it when possible. The church has also been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There is another edifice that does not fall into the church category and is not as grand as the centuries-old churches in Iloilo but is worth the visit. It's the Campo Santo in San Joaquin where the mortuary chapel sits atop a mound and has a panoramic view of the sea.
